Marilyn Fierro

Marilyn Fierro is an American eighth-degree black belt in karate.[1]

Biography

Fierro is Jewish, grew up in The Bronx in the 1950s, and later lived in Kings Park, New York.[2][3][4]

She has studied under Nick Adler and Angi Uezu.[4] In 1996, she was promoted to seventh-degree black belt, making her the highest-ranked woman worldwide in Okinawan Isshinryu Karate.[5] She is now an is an eighth-degree black belt.[1]

Since 1978, she has taught martial arts attack-prevention programs.[6] She owns and operates the Smithtown Karate Club, in Smithtown, New York.[7]

She has also written for Black Belt magazine.[8][9]

Halls of Fame

In 1988, she became the first female inducted into the Isshinryu Hall of Fame, in Knoxville, Tennessee.[2] In 1997, she was inducted into the New York Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.[7][10]
